Why sails? - The material!

The sailcloth used as the primary material in our products comes from sails that can no longer be used on boats. Over time, sails stretch and lose their aerodynamic performance. Even when significant damage renders a sail unusable onboard, we are still able to repurpose sections of it for our products.

The fabric is often still in very good condition when it leaves its life at sea, as it is an exceptionally durable material. Since there is currently no effective solution for recycling these materials, repurposing them into new products is a natural fit.

Worn mooring lines and sheets also find a second life, for example as handles on our bags.

Another material we use is SEAQUAL® YARN, a fabric made from plastics collected from nature and the ocean. This is transformed into a refined textile, which we use, among other things, for interior linings.

Upcycling - and the future

Upcycling is the re-use of already produced materials. It is an effective way to contribute to a sustainable future. We are comfortable to guarantee that our products meet the highest of quality, if you notice anything wrong all you need to do is get in touch, and we will sort it out.

But we also think further - if you accidentally damage your Sail Made-bag it should not be thrown away. If we can repair the damage we will do so at lowest possible cost. Because we believe in the idea of repairing quality products.
